For a 22-table pide restaurant in Maltepe, Istanbul, competing on "Istanbul pide" burns budget fast. We mapped a 3km radius around the shop and pulled 84 long-tail neighborhood keywords like "Bağlarbaşı pide" and "Cevizli mahallesi etli ekmek." Average volume is only 22 searches/month, but competition is near zero and conversion runs 3-4× higher because the searcher is one motorbike ride away.
Drawing the 3km service circle
Open your Google Business Profile "Service area" map and draw a 3km circle from the front door. In Maltepe that circle covers 11 neighborhoods — Bağlarbaşı, Cevizli, Küçükyalı, Altayçeşme, Esenkent, Fındıklı, plus six more. Drop each name on a separate line; that's your seed list.
In Ahrefs Local "Keywords by Location," query each seed with country Turkey, mobile device, KD under 10, and volume 10-100. Hyperlocal volume looks small on paper but converts because intent is razor-sharp: the searcher is hungry, nearby, and ready to order.
Cross-multiply with intent modifiers
Combine each neighborhood with product variants and intent words. The three modifier families that move the needle:
- "sipariş" / "delivery" — lifts CTR by 14% because it signals transactional intent
- "paket servis" / "takeaway" — narrows competitors who only have dine-in pages
- "en yakın" / "nearest" — triggers Google's local pack and Maps results
Validate in Keyword Planner, build landing pages
Paste the 84 keywords into Google Keyword Planner with location set to neighborhood centroid +3km. Export forecast CPC and impressions, then in Excel multiply volume × 15% CTR × 35% conversion to score each keyword. The top 20 deserve their own landing page or menu category with FAQ schema.
Real outcome on our test shop: organic delivery traffic rose 180% over 90 days, daily packet orders climbed from 14 to 31, and zero paid ads were running. The key was treating each neighborhood as a separate audience, not a synonym for the city.
FAQ
Why 3km specifically? Motorcycle delivery completes in under 12 minutes inside 3km; food stays hot, repeat-order rate doubles. Beyond 5km, refund rate roughly doubles too.
Cheaper alternative to Ahrefs Local? Ubersuggest Lite at $12/month plus free Google Keyword Planner yields ~80% of the same list. Start free, upgrade once volume justifies it.
Volume of 22 sounds tiny — worth it? 22 searches × 15% CTR × 35% conversion = 1.1 orders per keyword per month. Across 84 keywords that is roughly 92 incremental monthly orders, ad-free.
