How do I connect Stripe to take card payments?

On Diamond or Hotels+, you open your own Stripe account from the dashboard. Money lands in YOUR Stripe account; Thmenu never holds it.

Letting a guest pay by card from the table is unlocked on Diamond (restaurants) and Hotels+ (hotels). The money goes straight into your own Stripe account — Thmenu never holds it at any point.

Step by step

  1. Upgrade the plan. Dashboard → Subscription → Diamond (or Hotels+). The payment screen does not open without it.
  2. Go to Dashboard → Payments and press “Start with Stripe”. It hands you over to Stripe’s own form.
  3. Fill in Stripe’s form. Stripe asks for this, not us: the legal business name and address, the tax identification number (CUI in Romania, VKN in Türkiye, USt-IdNr in Germany), an ID document for the person representing the company, and the bank account (IBAN) the payouts should land in.
  4. Stripe reviews the account. Stripe reports the outcome. When Charges enabled and Payouts enabled both turn green on the Payments page, you are ready. If a document is missing, that same page names what is missing.
  5. Turn collection on. Dashboard → Settings → enable in-app payment collection. You cannot flip this switch before Stripe approves — deliberately, so no guest presses “Pay” and hits an error.

How the money moves

Guest pays → the amount lands in your Stripe account → Stripe pays out to your bank on its own schedule. Thmenu holds no funds anywhere in that path, which is precisely why we are not a payment intermediary and never sit on your balance.

Fees

There are two: Stripe’s own processing fee and the 1% Thmenu platform fee. Stripe’s rate depends on your country and the card type — check Stripe’s own pricing page for the current number; we would rather not print a figure here that goes stale. The 1% platform fee is deducted from the payment automatically.

Founding-member exception: restaurants that registered before 1 January 2027 are never charged the 1%, for life. It is tied to the registration date rather than the subscription, so cancelling and coming back does not lose it.

Refunds and chargebacks

You issue refunds from the Thmenu dashboard (full or partial); the 1% platform fee is returned proportionally too. A chargeback lands directly on your Stripe account and you handle the dispute from your own Stripe dashboard — the account is yours, so the evidence is yours to upload.

Common situations

  • Your country is not on the list: in-app collection cannot be opened everywhere. What is offered where is set out on the Coverage page. QR menu, table ordering and order tracking work in every country.
  • Türkiye: card collection in TR runs through an iyzico/PayTR account opened in the restaurant’s own name, not through Stripe. Thmenu integrates it; you file the application.
  • Do I get my own Stripe dashboard? Yes. You get a full Stripe account and can see payments, payouts and disputes there as well.
